what is my work about
I am deeply interested in the universal – love, innocence, joy, beauty… all things that are the essence of humanity, of nature or of existence itself. However, in the pursuit of this universal essence I realized that one needs to first get an insight into the personal – the self. And this has since been my purpose – to follow the inquiry down to the question ‘who am I’?
This purpose has brought forth more questions, and these work like signposts for me. There are two broad spaces I have been exploring. What is balance – why do we seek it & how do we experience it. And, what does being boundless mean - physically, in material, in ideas, in time.
Rather than actively looking for answers, I stay with these questions - and have found the subtle realizations seem to flow in.
This then becomes my work - an outcome of reflecting on these questions. Like the answers, the work is abstract - as it best precipitates my experiences. The process, tools & materials change based on the question being lived, but most often I would be using an ordinary kitchen tool – the rolling pin. I primarily work with oils and the work grows onto the canvas over many weeks.
My attempt through my work is to be honest to my own process and journey. I hope that provides the viewers a window to glimpse and connect with something more universal
